United Way of Westchester – 1982 to 1985
General Chairman 1984-1985
While Commissioner of Community Mental Health in Westchester County, New York, I became active with the United Way of Westchester, focused on forging a public/private partnership among organizations that provided health, mental health, and social services to county residents. I then began to help them with fundraising, leading one of their campaign divisions. After a couple of years, I was appointed General Chairman of the Campaign. I was told that I was the first public official in the country to hold that post.
Here is a Newspaper article announcing my appointment as chairman of the 1984-85 United Way Campaign.

The president and Chief Professional Officer of the United Way of Westchester wrote me a letter summarizing the campaign's outcomes.
